From G. H. Darwin to Emma Darwin [late March 1868]

Dear Mama,

Thrale never ⟨    ⟩ ⟨    ⟩ his bill before; I told ⟨    ⟩ to send it to me but ⟨  ⟩ didn't & I forgot about ⟨  ⟩. Papa did say that he wd pay for that horse which I cdn't use.—

I have got a list of private tutors from Burn. I believe Whitt doesn't take in pupils but I believe would coach every day.

Webster was up in my ⟨    ⟩ believe is a thoroughly nice man; at ⟨  ⟩ I think he was ⟨  ⟩ of the best liked ⟨  ⟩ in the University; but I daresay that was partly because he was the best runner that has ever been here. I shd think of course he wd'nt be the paternal sort of tutor, but simply a coach. Goodwin is a man who used to send up pupils for Scholarships here. Hillier is a man that Burn seemed to think well off, but he hasn't heard of him lately as taking pupils. The other men have got their degrees to recognise them & by the dates cannot have become mushrooms as Wms old Wilson had. I shd say that all these men were rather big guns to grind a boy in Greek & Latin Grammar & of course it wd be a subject of correspondence to see what they thought of Horace's peculiar case. If Horace were simply to have a daily coach Webster or Whitt wd be the men. It is really awfully difficult to know which to take. I think I have heard of M'clellan doing some original maths but I'm not sure.

There is an Opera troup come down here; I shall go & hear them a in a night or two Dull letter
