From Emma Darwin to G. H. Darwin [19 January 1882]

My dear George

I am afraid the last days of the exam. papers will be very irksome & F. & I will be anxious to know how you are getting on. I hope your wrist is really better by yr playing tennis so vigorously. Bessy had pleasant 3 days at the Ogles, liking her very much. Dr Ogle is very amusing & agreeable but he never speaks well of any body—& what is worse found fault with the turkey at his own table. Dr Moore dined there so it was pleasant. B. went to call on the Miss Cobdens w. Mrs Ogle— They rehearse their plays on Sunday evgs which is too much flying in the face of the world—

We have all bad colds & I hope F's will not fly to his chest— Fr is very bad but has gone to the Linnean & to sleep in London—

Hen. is v. done up w. attending to Laura & catering amusements for 2 young Juke girls who are spending a week with them, & it is thought that they will not be allowed to go any where with only a maid—

Let us know when you really sail— We have the Ritchie's & Emily Lock on the 28th & if you are done I dare say you will meet them. The barom. keeps at the most extra. height—higher than any time in this century— Now I must write to Ida about cooks— Bessie thought her looking v delicate & pulled down

Yours dear G | E. D
