From Emma Darwin to G. H. Darwin [5 June 1883]

[Down.]

Tuesday

My dear George

I want to know how you are going on, & I suppose you are as hot as ever—yesterday we were very cold & had a fire— today just as bright as ever—& this high land makes me feel so well—- It is very charming here & feels quite mountainous. What did you do on the race day—

We have been chiefly occupied in seeing old friends & bedding out plants; which we must water. I am sorry to hear that S. Sales has left every single thing except 3 Bibles to his wife, not even the mother's nic nacks to her daughter & I am sure they will not be good friends unless Mrs Ev. alters that disposition to some degree—for it really is very hard upon her—every thing left to Mrs E. for her life— of course she cannot leave it to any one but Mabel—

I hope you will go & hear the Reid lecture if at Cam— I have taken advantage of the absence of sons to invite Miss T to stay till Sat— under those circes I do not mind, & she enjoys the country heartily— (She comes I see)

yours my dear G— | E. D—

Dubsy is liverish & r. poorly—& had spruttles yesterday & a bad dream about the Gorgon's head wh. he listened intently to— he is qu. cheerful at play—

The Litches & Mildred come on Sat.
