My dear George
We had a flock of congratulators yesterday—of which the pleasantest were Prof. & Mrs Adams who know Maude the best & like her so much—
Prof. Newton I believe had hoped better things of you, & that you wd not have deserted him. I wish he wd follow your example. Mrs Adams told us you wd probably be married in September (as she had heard from Mrs Jebb) I am very glad you wrote to Ellen T— also to Aunt Caroline— Old Ladies partic. like such a mark of attention. Margaret Williams & her children are here, & Bernard is in a state of rapture all day with Ralph who is apparently quite well amused with him, though so much younger than himself. Mildred is here & Mercy Foster by way of play fellow to her—
Mildred only saw her future step mother once before the marriage, which does not look as if Mrs Langton cares much about the children being fond of her— They are still at Bath as the house at Eastwood is being altered in some degree—
Mr Dew—told Horace of some mysterious negociations which I hope may succeed— I suppose it is the house next Springfield, wh. seems to be the only house in Cambridge.
