My dear George
I will not answer you pleasant letter today; but only write business— Mrs Pearce has recd her cheque Sir J. & Lady H. have been here for 2 days & I have talked about the Index w. him—-
I told him that the sons shd settle it; but my wish is to do what your father wd have done, & I feel sure he wd have given extra help Moreover the current expences are now £100 per an. less than they were— I understand him to say that they wd like £800—but they have £300 wh. they can apply to their purpose, therefore £500 wd be enough to carry thm thro' the printing— How delightful the last week has been—but our hay is not touched.
I shd like to see Gwenny's happy existence. None of you were like that—tho' I remember ceaseless giggles between Leo & Horace.
yours E D
