From Emma Darwin to G. H. Darwin 20 August [1890]

My dear George

The Leonards will be here from Friday till Monday, so that I shall not want you; but it wd be very nice if you wd come all the same & have a sight of Leo— I am bound to own that a party of possibly 70 (or 50) will come to see the place on Sunday & I shall give them tea & sandwiches as before; but I am not at all for your doing any thing to receive them. I shall not see them. They must amuse themselves this time & it is the last time I shall feed them. It makes the exped. too popular.

It is nice the children not minding the whooping cough— I hope it will continue of the same mild form—

Is Margaret kept separate. She is too young to have it if it can be avoided— Would you like to send her to quarantine at the Grove— The Rutherfords have vacated—

We had a fine Sat & Sunday for the Marshalls & Ernests—& m. sitting out & walking. I shall never get any forrarder w. Mrs Ernest— She is quite nice but artificial. The Marshalls have a charming place in Sussex—

Hen. & R. go to L. H. P. on Sat— I have not seen you in the Times yet— There was another letter w. the same complaint— The tel had not been delivered because there was no letter to the address.

My best love to Maud— I hope the little Du Puys have had the cough, so that she will not lose her visit—

yours dear G— | E. D–

It is so dark I can hardly see

What a charming photo of Margaret   Such a sweet happy expression
