My dear George

I dare say you have not been so cold as we— It has been quite wintry for 4 or 5 days—

Sara left us on Friday to receive the little type writing lady you met at Lady Musgraves— Her wrists are no better as yet— Her salary is £250 per an! Wm returned here yesterday—& the Franks have returned home as Fraces was feverish & probably has had influencee but she is going on well—

Frank was m. interested by his evg in the H— He came in for the Conybeare Squabble about breach of privilege & he thought the Speaker's manner & dignity also a good humoured & polite contempt quite perfect. W. H. Russel on the Commission was too hot & vehement for his taste. Chamberlain excellent— Albert Dicey is at 31 K. Sqr. He is in high spirits politically. Lord Houghton has disled himself by refusing to receive the address from Dublin on his arrival & all the gentry Boycot him & he has to collect guests from Yorkshire for his balls—

I go down every day & I am much stronger—

I hope the new cook will do. She is so civilized & well educated that I guess she can read aloud to me— She is slightly too elegant but that will go off & she has cooked everything nicely as yet. The servants like her & say she wishes to make them comf.

The orch. children have bad colds & don't go out— B. went & had a word game w. them— [Bill] Marshall is at the Orch— W. & F. went over & joined them last night. I hope it will have been warm enough for the children to dig. Are there any shells— I remember the pleasure of shells at Tenby when & was 6. My best love to Maud. Yours my dear G—

E. Darwin
