From Emma Darwin to G. H. Darwin 9 May [1894]

The Grove, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge.

May 9

My dear George

My news will be small & so I will fill up w. other peoples, esp. as you saw little of Leo— I hope you will have fine wather & sit & loaf about. I am sure you wd not have been able to to help doing things if you had gone straight home— I hope we shall the children today—

The Harrison visit was a great success & Lucy much more alive & well dressed than I expected. She keeps her interest in all my affairs & even told me some of her own—having enjoyed a 3 days visit at Dartmouth having Tommy w. them from the Britannia training ship where he is v. happy— James H. was quite harmless— They had plenty to amuse them & liked doing things—

Yours my dear G. & M. | E. Darwin

I don't wonder you feel a little done up in coming out of prison—
