From Emma Darwin to G. H. Darwin 14 April 1895

The Grove. Huntingdon Road. Cambridge.

Ap 14 95—

My dear George

We have had bright pleasant weather & Margt has been out most of the day— Frances has adopted her like a little mother. Miss Sharpley has returned & so I am afraid Fr. will not be at so much liberty.

The baby has paid me visits & now that he is not so much absorbed by the novelty of things he is more open to jokes & attentions. Bessy, who has had no practice in babies since Bernard, carries him about & undertakes him at Helen's dinner time w. great success— Albert Dicey is here since Thursday. He talks so ceaselessly that he tires me & I see not much of him— The only politics I have gleaned are that he thinks Govt have made a gt mistake in forcing in Mr Gully— Whatever may be his impartiality & good temper & manners; He can't have m. knowledge of Parlt. Sally Norton (or Sara as she is now to be) came yesterday from Bassett. She is v. nice & helped to make a little Dinner, of the Jebbs & Litches & Frank go off pleasantly— Albert also said that Govt might have had Courtenay w. a little management, tho' he is not perfect. I had a cheerful & pleasant letter from Maud & Gwenny— from Q. town. They were all happy & free from sickness even Elizabeth. Poor Boy when first he was sick asked to be put ashore & give it up— I don't believe children mind it so m. as grown people. I think you will find it v interesting living in a French family, tho' D'Estournelles must be v. cosmopolitan. If it comes in your way will you give my kind rememb— to M. & Mme who I once saw— I don't expect any thing more than a p. card from you as all your writing will be for Maud.

I hope you have got rid of your cold.

Yours my dear George | E. Darwin

They sound more prosperous at Weymouth & I hear of Ida taking walks so she must be stronger— Eras. has joined them.

Margaret is a most independent little soul & gives no trouble & is always happy—
