From W. W. Ouless to W. E. Darwin 6 June 1882

12, Bryanston Square, W. | London.

June 6. 82.

Dear Mr Darwin,

I have been in France some days and did not receive your letter till my return today. I have not yet heard from Dr. Swainson in answer to my reply to his letter asking if I would myself copy Mr. Darwin's portrait, or let some one else do so.

I said I should be happy to do either. I could not do it myself before Novbr. or Decbr. but could recommend some friend to do it, and should be glad to watch its progress and give my advice.

I very seldom care to copy my works, but this is one in which I have always been specially interested, and I should like it to be well copied.

In any case I meant to request that some distinction should be made between the two portraits, I should propose to make it by writing on the copy, with my name and date, the word "Replica", and on the back of the canvas a fuller explanation could be put.

I am | Yours very truly | W. W. Ouless.

W. E. Darwin Esqr
