From Emma and Leonard Darwin to W. E. Darwin [26 July 1860]

My dear William

Lenny's letter has rather failed as you see. We thought it more comf. to see Sir H. H. & he is coming today, not that Etty is any the worse for the attack but rather better in some things. G. went to fetch him yesterday & he is coming today. You shall hear tomorrow not that I expect that he will have any very definite opinion to give

Please not to express any anxiety about her in your letters but only just send your love as she likes hearing your letters. Down House sounds in a horrid state. It was quite pathetic your way of spending your evening there. Edmund went to Barlaston on Tuesday from the Macks, taking Eva with him. They have every bed full.

George called at Uncle Ras & found Mack. Erny & Bessy all ill with a bilious attack. Erny was in bed but as it was only 11.30 that might be nothing.

Your father will pay you soon. We like your letters very much so write pretty often. Your father is very poorly but it is the fruits of anxiety.

Aunt Charlotte is also going to consult Sir H. H. very much against the grain, it is to please Ch. L. The children & Anne took an immense walk yesterday.

Miss Ludwig is coming today as our stay here is so uncertain. The 4 boys sleep down below. Good bye | my dear Wm | E. D.
