From Emma Darwin to W. E. Darwin [28 July 1862]

My dear William

Lenny keeps on getting stronger & eating a little more. He was sick twice last night but does not seem the worse for it. His poor face is so little & grave & his nose so sharp.

The chief interest in life he has is thinking of things to eat, not the most wholesome or easy to get however, viz raccoons & trifle. We have had a parcel from Fortnum but he can't eat any of it yet. He also thinks a good deal about postage stamps. He ate chicken yesterday however & strawberries & cream several times. We are very fond of Mr Engleheart.
