From Emma Darwin to W. E. Darwin [September 1862]

Bournemouth

Thursday

My dear Wm

I am very sorry about poor little Maud. It would be very awful having only one or two children. I have not much hopes of you this week as I shd think they wd stay in London.

The boys & maids went a very successful lark yesterday to Christchurch the church there seems well worth seeing.

The fishing tackle has fermented to such purpose in Lenny's head that they are going a fishing with Parslow inland. He was wondering what they shd do with all the fish they caught. I find Lord Dundonald very interesting & I sure it wd suit you. It makes one hate & despise the Admiralty & government in those days to a painful extent. Your father is well entered with Drosera again which keeps off home sickness tolerably

Goodbye my dear old man | Yours | E. D.

He walked yesterday to Alum chine

Here is a letter from Martha which you may burn
