My dear William

Your letter from Luxor of the 24 Dec gives a delightful account. I am afraid it will set Sir T. & Effie into a very envious state of mind— Effie partic. wished to know how you were going on & so I have sent them a copy of it— I am so glad Sara can join in the easier expeds. I don't know whether we have had Influenza— It is [paging] in Cambridge; but I think our complaints have not been sudden & violent enough— Bessy was 2 or 3 days in bed— a most rare event for her— I keep very stationary & move into the bow room for some hours every day. We had some bright warm days about Xmas— Hen. has quite escaped & leaves us to go home on Sat— I am sorry to say R. was v. poorly too. They had an alarm about Sir T— before the leg was reset & for 24 hrs there was danger of gangrene—

Noel came to the Orchard last week bringing on the whole a good acct. I believe they will come straight home— Tom is with them now—

Your letters make George very envious & I hope he will manage the same exped— some day—

Bernard has a sharp feverish attack wh. came on 2 days after his arrival at St Moritz. He had an excellent journey & no cold so I believe it is English Influenza

My best love to Sara & Sally My rheumatism is quite gone— my appetite good

Yours my dear Wm | E. Darwin

We have had Sara's pleasant acct a few days before yours—
