From Leonard Darwin to G. H. Darwin [21 or 28 September 1877]

6 Queen Anne St.

Friday

Dear George

I saw Pick yesterday and he was pleased to say that my knee was going on as well as possible, but that I must keep on the leather splint for another month, which is not very cheerful  It wont be quite so bad now for I am to put my foot to the ground, and graduatlly get used to walking on it, but using crutches all the same.

I have written to Chatham to know if it is any use my coming there in this crippled state. I dont know what they will say whether they will give me sick leave or not.

Uncle Ras seems very cheerful, but has not been going out so I suppose that he has not been quite up to the mark.

I think the secret will burst before long, Uncle Ras said he considered that it expired naturally on Saturday, and that he was going to tell. He seems to have thoroughly confused Hope, which is more than I had expected.

I think you as well up in Swiss news as I am, but there is very little to tell anyhow. I hope you have picked up a bit.

You affec. brot. | L. Darwin.
