From Sara Sedgwick to H. E. Litchfield 5 October [1877]

Tilgate | Crawley, Sussex.

Oct 5th.

My dear Henrietta,

Your kindest of letters came to me this morning and is but another touching proof of the love in which your brother is held—- That I may be worthy of the happiness that has so wonderfully fallen to my lot is my constant prayer. Will you please give my love to Mr Litchfield  I have so often thought of you both, grieving for his long illness, but now all your sorrow is turned to joy, and I trust you will soon be returning to England— I have been in town for many days, and last Sunday William came bringing me such a beautiful letter from your father— It went to my heart because of the simple and tender way in which he praised his son, and he accepts me with such entire generosity.

Tomorrow William is coming here for Sunday and next Saturday your dear mother bids me come to Down— It will make me very happy to be with her—

I think I will not speak of my own dear people. The separation is terribly hard, but by & by I shall get used to it.

Always | my dear Henrietta, | Your very affectionate | Sara Sedgwick.
