From Francis Wedgwood Sr to H. E. Litchfield 1 May 1881

Barlaston, | Stoke upon Trent,

May 1 1881

My dear Henrietta

I don't know why I should feel any shiness in asking you to receieve a present from me—at all events you are my niece and I believe it is the first time and I never was so flush before.

Your mother gave me a sad account of poor Mrs Tukes troubles  I hope Richard will be able to arrange something for her alleviation— I wish I could have gone to Down but if it had been otherwise convenient my folly in catching cold (if it was a cold) put that out of the question— I got home all right on Friday but I am hardly yet "in my usual" as a Scotch friend of ours used to say

With kindest regards to Richard | Your affectionate uncle | F Wedgwood

Mrs Litchfield | Bryanston St | London
