From Emma Darwin to H. E. Darwin [1 June 1865]

Thursday

My dearest B.

I was so glad to get your little note from Mack.

Papa had a good day yesterday in & out & to the sand walk. No effect from ice. Certainly no bad effect—

Anne read 3 times capitally so much interested that she gives all right emphasis & has great difficulty in stopping laughing. It really will be handy at all times. The h's are most funny ""hall in hall"". Papa has been greatly worried this mg by all the Lyell & Lubbock correspondence sent him by Sir C. & whereas after talking to John, he thought him not wrong, after seeing all the letters, he thinks he was quite wrong not to allude to Sir C's explanation of the matter.

He has written to this effect to Sir C. & I suppose this will be shewn to John L.

Another beautiful day. I hope you have it. We are sending to Bromley & shall get yr letter.

Alas Bobby must be muzzled he flys often at people. It is better than keeping him shut up. Tell me which of the 2 blackies shall go. Foxy has the most caractère now. I think Mr Percival had better have one soon now they are so charming.

I have had a lot of letters to write but I dare say I will write a scrap in afternoon

Yours E. D.

I hope you were out all yesterday it was very nice here I am quite well
