From Emma Darwin to H. E. Darwin [17 June 1865]

Down. | Bromley | Kent. S. E.

Sat.

My dearest Body

We shall be very glad to have you back on Thursday. I have taken a fear that you will knock yourself up the last 2 days so pray commit any extravagance in the way of ponies or flys. that may save you. The boys will rejoice to hear that George does not stay longer.

Your Barmouth day had too many vicissitudes to be perfect.

Your own mountain walks are better than any of your great expeds can be. I wish very much you cd take any precautions about going up Cader so as to give in with an extra. guide & return if it is too much for you.

Papa had a better day yesterday decidedly tho' he did not escape sickness at night.

I suppose you will set George to fill up the gaps with some of the short expeditions.

We have heard from Dr Chap. much disappointed about the ice, but still advising its continuance in great moderation. At Eliz. has offered Louisa a bed at No 4. so she will be there the day before you. I wish the poor little goose cd have met you for her sake. Perhaps she will not go at all but through London straight. as cheaper. Goodbye my dear E. D.

Godfrey feels Cicely's marriage a good deal. Her marriage will make his own in future years more possible.
