From Emma Darwin to H. E. Litchfield [12 April 1881]

Tuesday p. m.

Every thing has gone off smooth & the poor little man has never mentioned M. She spent most of yesterday here; but she told me she was sure it was bad for him & she thought she had better not come again— She told him she should not come today— It was very pathetic to see him rush at her when she had left the room for a minute.

I hope she is going to London tomorrow— I shall favour the delusion that she is gone— Sara is not so dead as might be expected
