From Emma Darwin to H. E. Litchfield 10 January 1882

Wed. | Jan 10 1882

Dearest H—

I feel quite happy about Ida now, & I think we may begin to expect them before very long. What good bulletins Mrs Harmer writes. I sent the last to Sara, as saving trouble—

Here is a nice note from her & W^m's^ sad acct of the misfortune in Mrs Sam Ashburner's family— It must make them feel as if they were living under a doom.

Bessy will tell you of our pleasant Sat & Sunday—

U. Hensleigh says that there is a fresh decision pending about Cecil—but does not say what—I gather that it is an offer of Cecil to give up Cambridge & join at once— It is generous & good of him; but I hope they won't accept it—I am sure Godfrey will think afterwards that it was not worth while stopping his Cambridge.—

The thought reading was not much; but I will send you U. H.'s letter & you may pass it on to Ellen to burn— She has sent me another Conversation—so Harry's accident was lucky—

Yours my dear | E. D.

I am so glad you are coming on Sat. if only for a bit of rest—I am going to do the Union this p.m—
