From H. E. Darwin to Emma Darwin 22 [April 1866]

Cannes

Sunday 22nd.

Dearest Mamy

This will be a mere notification of my welfare as I have no time & as long as the Hs stick to us I guess you won't be treated very handsomely in the matter of letters. We go on to Mentone (P. R. Menton) on Wednesday so your next letters must be there please, with the Hs & so we shall have a whole week of them which will be very sweet. My spirits have mounted many degrees already—& I am glad to say E. is a shade better these two last days— I met them at the Station & we came up together to their inn where they seem very comf— I feel well but not quite so strong as I did before my cold—I'll take care of my precious self. Church today walk this afternoon is our scheme & I must soon have done this

Mrs Darwin

Thank you for your last letter— It is nice to hear of your being really better & I hope London will take place now. Margaret wrote me a letter about the Wedding & said she did like Major O.  altogether twas one of the pleasantest & most abandoned letters I ever had from her pen. I am very glad it is all over for Aunt Sue's sake—

It is a lovely day I am thankful to say & I don't think too hot—

Excuse brevity—yours H. E. D.
