From Leonard Darwin to Emma Darwin 13 February 1876

Dear mother

I am out at Pembroke Camp now, but it is not nearly such a bother as I had expected, except that I miss my morning walk with George. It is rather a pretty place, my room being quite close to the sea, and facing it, with a pleasant view of Gozo in the distance  I had no idea what a difference having no tide would make; it is simply rough rock that slopes down into the sea, without any beach, in the most uninteresting way. I am glad to hear from Amy that the Oranges are a success; it seems such an age since I tasted one in England, that I forget how much better these are  What I do like is that I get so many of them, three four or five a day being about my number, The season here is drawing to a close, and I am rather glad of it as I am getting a little sick of the dances here. I has missed my regular Sunday morning time for letter writing and that has put me out of joint.
