From G. H. Darwin to Horace Darwin 3 May 1873

Dear Jim,

Thanks for the inform."" about the [Adams] prize, I fear it is too tall for me. You may keep Maxwell till I am to Camb. as I hope to do if I go on well—for I certainly am a bit better & am only havg. regular [blurs] [hurns] about once a week now; I'm v. glad to hear that you continue better.

Will you ask Bradshaw whether he knows of any book or books where I cd. find any account of the restrictions to marriage wh. exist in European States as for example the various degrees of prohibited relationship & especially the legislation as to prerequisites to marriage in the way of prohibition to marriage when the parties appear unable to support children; I believe this last obtains in Batavia but can get no account of it. I inquired at Lord Lub. & cd. get no help— I shd. rather like an answer pretty soon as I want to read it up if I can

Wm. [Un] Litchd[.] & prob. Frk. are coming today but I fear not old Pouts. Dr. H.'s application to Cardwell has been most successful, as he says the application will be favourably considered, I think therefore we may consider L's hash as nicely cooked.—

Poor Father keeps pretty bad—he doesn't seem able to get over the scrimmage of London. The verandah is getting on to completion & will I think be a real addition to the looks of the house without blemishing the drawing room.—

I have been winding up my legal affairs at a great rate & have [this] in train for a complete finish.—

Did you see my letter in this last Nature
