From Emma Darwin to Leonard Darwin [4 August 1873]

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

Monday—

My dear Lenny

We are just on the point of starting (viz tomorrow to Abinger)  Uncle Ras & U. Hensleigh & [titches] go today.

I hope u got yr Sunday at Barlaston—

I expect u will have a jolly time in those parts—

I hope Horace is at the present time rowing from Oxford to London. & if he cd use his new patent bench the pleasure wd be greatly enhanced. Wm. is returned not much better for his trip— He finds that he cannot read at all without feeling it in his head.— It is a great loss for him. Dr W. Fox says that he ought to have 2 months more holiday in the autumn. He will try to manage his leave of absence; but it will be rather difficult to manage. Frank & Amy are gone to Wales—

I have just got your letter from Barlaston.

I find my ideas gone so Goodbye my dear Leo— yours E.D.

I am surprised about [Kerguelan's] land being full—
