My dear Leo

You have sent us v. pleasant letters & I wd have answered them if I had known how. I am surprized at yr finding good subjects in Switz. I think a distant view of a glacier so ugly but it mt be ever so grand near. I think G. q. sympathizes w. yr feelings about N.L–-viz finding him pleasant & yet bothering. The Horaces were looking out for you at Zermatt but they left on Monday for Macagnaga—

Our weather is q. enchanting but r. too hot for me.

Fr. spent 2 days at Radnor & liked Mr I. but not his eldest son— Bessy is there now & poor Margt was obliged to go up to her dentist & sleep in London— So I am sure she will be knocked up & it is a pity they did not put off Bessy— Fr. got some good lawn tennis at yr dear friend Mrs Pennington. The Miss Wells in loose flannels play most scientific

The Horaces have had a good time, & nice walks & expeds & met many people they knew but not pleasant ones— I wish you cd have joined them for a day or so & they were disappted about it. Geo. will go to Basset as soon as he has spirit for it; but he had had a bad time. We shall see you on the 11th I hope

yours my dear Leo | E. Darwin—

The Godfreys spent 2 days w. At Eliz. & came to dinner & up at odd times w. their grand baby— They were v. pleasant but I did not broach any dangerous topics. Cecil was there too; but looked too big to be comfortable.
