Dearest Mother—

It was v. nice seeing Bessy walk in yesterday. She didn't tell me abt her gown but I'm v. glad it is a success. I am struggling first with the house & then must go & fight with my mourning, I am glad you are going to try some thing fresh for your night meal.

It feels v. nice to be down in the drawing room & I enjoy the warmth wh. I fear you don't poor Mother.

Everything is in a most awful Kettle of fish—owing to nobody's knowing where Betty hid things— Sheila's knowing nothing & being new & very slow & the electric men having made hay in every room in the house & Miss Welton in R's new room & the drawing room. However 4 hours of 2 men R Sheila & me & Lizzie have hung the drawing room & study pictures— I of course only using my brain to direct all their bodies.

I can't understand abt the Tomma's house because there is a board up saying

Goodbye dear Mother Arthur Tuke has just been in I luckily cd whip into a blk gown.

I am not tired

yr HEL
