From H. E. Litchfield to G. H. Darwin 9 May 1877

Dear George,

I enclose this letter of Wm’s which I shd think you might burn when read. I hope you are standing these diabolical winds. They have nipped me & I’m bed with them but I hope to be getting out today of my room. I’m aggravated at being sick my last little bit of London Life before we go off to Kreuznach—

We are thinking, weather & health permitting of taking a little spin into Holland en route— You liked it very much didn’t you. I shd like to hear what Hotel you went to in Amsterdam. The best one sounds so far out of the town & it is everything for me to be on the spot. I shall try when I’m at Kreuznach to have some German lessons & get an inch further into that weary language.

They have had a prosperous visit of the Hensleighs & T.H.F. at Down spite of poor Mother starting with a billious sickness on Sat. T.H.F. speaks very ominously abt war, that Dizzy is set on it

your affec | H.E.L.

R. saw F. Galton on Sunday. Mrs Galton stronger & not suffering but no real hope—
