From F. M. Balfour to G. H. Darwin 23 July 1875

Trin. Coll. CAMB

July 23. 75

Dear George

I yesterday received your letter of the 23?

Any slight misunderstanding's wh. may have occurred between Lankester & myself are now quite explained. There were a few points such as about meaningQQQQ [of] [term] up in a delicate negotiation wh seemed at one time likely to lead to misunderstandings, but I hope that each of us is now fully satisfied of the honourable intentions of the other, & that our relations are as cordial as ever.

I have been very sorry to hear of your relapse but I hope it is [all] very temporary.

I received your very important paper upon Cousin Marriages, & have read it with the greatest interest.

Your conclusions though unexpected are quite intelligible when compared with the close interbreeding of most domestic animals, & the absence of injury from it.

Dr [Dobru] has suddenly & unexpectedly turned up here & my talking to [him] while writing this [leter] must be my apology for its extreme roughness & deficiency of grammar. Dr. [Dobru] begs me to send his kindest regards to Mr Darwin & [also] [illeg] [on] to you

your ever | F MBalfour
