From G. H. Darwin to Francis Darwin [29 April 1860?]

Sunday

My dear Franky

I hope you will excuse me writing on this bit of paper as I've only got one piece & that I've had to tear into. Sir!!!! I'll thank you not to write me any letters. If you cant write in way which any one but a *purplegumplum would the very idea of insinuating that I should turn in to a— Well perhaps we had better not say what. Now the longer I stop away the worse it'll be for you because my hands will be gradual turning into silver & then It'll hurt you head a great deal more. *nota bene. This is a curious animals that turns bright purple in the evening

Are you prospering at billiards. You must remember in May to look every other day for my cats (puss moths). Wasn't it dreadfully perwerse of old Pritchard not letting me go to London. I suppose you dont mind the snow thawing at Down but its perfectly horrid here for all the roads were so frightfully sloppy that you got nearly over your ancles in mud if you didnt take care. I hope Pouter has recovered the effects. of smashing mama's window.

Good bye | I remain your | affectionate brother! | G. H. Darwin
