Dear Mama

I came here by the train wh: leaves London at 4 & got here at half past six & called on Burn, who is rather young & pleasant sort of man, & had rooms assigned me in the new court & I found Tea & all that sort of thing ready; after tea I went for a short time to a man's rooms, who I know & went to bed about ten.

This morning there it was a Greek translation paper which I got on very well as I thought. This afternoon it was a mathematical paper & I didn't do so much as I ought by a long way; it was very long & we hadn't near time enough, besides it was a very different Style to what I expected

There are only 30 competitors but I'm afraid they 're very good indeed. In fact I think my chance has gone with this afternoon's paper I have to wear cap & gown for exam. & hall. W. Wanted to know how I got on so send this on.

I remain | Your affec son | G. H. Darwin
