From Hensleigh Wedgwood to G. H. Darwin [June 1875]

31 Queen Anne St

Friday

My dear George

Are you inclined to dine here on Thursday next at 12 p 7 to meet Miss Showers & Mrs Guppy. Miss S. will I believe shew the spontaneous tying and untying of her hands & the slipping on a ring or a chair upon her arms when tied, which she shewed me yesterday. Mrs G will perhaps give us a shower of flowers.

I do not know whether you heard the story of Mrs S not being really the mother of Miss Showers & of the latter being really 28 or 30. You may rely upon it it is a scandalous falsehood as I have seen enough of both to be quite sure of.

Your affecte | H Wedgwood.
