. . . . “I daresay you'll have heard how the Quarterly Review (in article which we attribute to Mivart) accused me in my marriage article in Contemporary of justifying unrestrained licentiousness & encouragement of prostitution to check population—also my arguments wd justify unnat. offences. A denial by me is to appear in next. Quarterly but I bet the reviewer will tack on some fresh lies. Father wants to have at him legally if he does, but for once I’m milder than he—& I don't think we shd win if we did. …
