From Horace Darwin to Emma Darwin [1878–9?]

Barlaston, | Stoke upon Trent.

Thursday

Dear Mother,

I don’t think that I have told you any of my doings since I left Glasgow. I had a very successful time there there, both as regards axles and other-wise. I left there on Saturday & came here & had a very rainy Sunday and I sat many hours in the green house smoking with Mab to keep me company. On Monday I went to Manchester, getting into the train with Dew. We had a very nice time there seeing lots of works Witworths & others   Dew is a very good man to see any think with he always get the most out of it. We had very hard work altogether & saw a great deal. I enjoyed myself very much. I came back here yesterday & go to town on Friday. Will you write me a line to say what trains will be met & I will come by it if I can.

Hope came over this after noon I’m very glad to have seen her.

Yours ever | Horace Darwin
