From Horace Darwin to G. H. Darwin 3 June [1868]

June 3

Dear George

I have got some money from home but they say that they will pay you when you get there as it will be soon but if you are in a parvus state I will send you a P.O. but if not I will let them pay; if they do will you give F 2s" 3d which I forgot, & that will make £2.12s. I got here all right & had not to walk which was a blessing; one of the cylinders of the engine broke & we had to go along with only one; we knew there was only one by the puffs being so slow & by the train starting with slight jerks one time we stopped at a dead pt. & had to be started with a jack. The other night the sea was phosphorescent, we were rowing & every time the water was sterred up by the oars it looked splendid. I feel now as if I had seen Cam. for such a time; I was talking to Rouse the other day & I said that I thought John’s prettier than Trinity & he did not agree with me, but said that it never entered his mind that any thing of John’s could be better in any way than Trin; & on the same principle that any of the Old Court could not be plaster; which I said it was; if you answer tell me if I’m right I want to squosh him.

I remain your affec brother | H. Darwin
