From Leonard Darwin to Horace Darwin [17 May 1873]

Dear Jim:

I am sorry to say that I cant come; my d—d boys are going through musketry instruction and I shall have to go to Church. Anyhow I could only have come for 24 hours. I think I must have a shot at coming up during the week days some time. I have been doing some “quite good” photos this week. Quite good is the expression they always seem to use in the schools—, I think it is rather a good one as it gives a slight tone of contempt to it. It is very hard to get subjects here. We had a photo duell the other day. Two Cameras 20 paces distant, at the word fire, we took each other. But it did not pay for they wanted different exposures, and we had to give them the same
