From Leonard Darwin to Horace Darwin [1876?]

WAR OFFICE

Dear Jim

I enclose rough draft of My proposed letter to Sir T.F. I dont think it can do any harm, but I am blowed if I see that it can do much good. Give us your opinion like a good chap. & return letter

Should like £250 share Telpherage=£212.10 paid up. Thanks for letting me know.

Yesterday there was a notice in the papers saying that 15 Commissions would be given in R.E. for men under 22 years of age. Names to be in by the 23rd. inst. The most foolish thing ever done. Intended to catch University men, who will never hear of it in time Am not I right in supposg that they (i.e. the Cambridge undergraduate public) will never hear of it till it is over.? If by any chance you should see any College tutor ask him if he knows anythng about it, and let me know on a card. Write decently without oaths as I should very likely shew a copy of what you say to D.A.G.R.E. But dont bother because I am afraid it is too late to do anything.

Yours | L Darwin
