From H. E. Litchfield to Leonard Darwin [1876]

That is where I feel it becomes disgraceful if you intensely enjoy flowers & a fine day & other beautiful objects so you may young men. I suppose the festivities of Malta still go on. We've done our W.M.C. parties Jemmy & Bessy came to ours. & behaved quite like frisky old lambs wh. was v. good of them. I don't think I've any more news—we have had no domestic rumpus & I begin to feel as if I shd go along without finding out any fresh scandal or having a maid or two go mad.

My cook can do beefsteaks & chops & potatoes wh. are the most rare accomplishments & not at all Evansian traits so I feel now inclined to live upon beefsteak.

Goodbye dear Pouts

Hope said Jemmy taught them all the reel the second night & looked so nice doing his steps in the middle of abt 10 girls.
