From Lord Monteagle to Horace Darwin 5 August 1873

Mount Trenchard, Foynes, Ireland

5 Aug. 73

My dear Horace

I know not how it escaped me to ask you by live voice (as would have been better considering the, I fear, slender chance of your accepting) whether you would pay me a visit this summer? Anytime from now to middle of Sept.

You know you mustn't class this place along with Glencor we quite bracing comparatively & though there is nothing to do you can do it anyway you like & we have a river that will bear looking at, & a sea coast near that was a revelation to me when first I saw it.

We're a least of a way off I fear but after all you're started then isn't much difference between a 12 hrs journey & a 20.

Anyhow let me hear how you are. I suppose you have left town & gone to down.

You will be glad to hear Victor Marshall broke a sliding seat the other day that slid on glass at least he broke the glass by pure sitting & sliding.

Thank you & George much for getting me Dr. Frank's address I hope it was no bother. I hope he's better & all others will.

Yrs. | M.

Did you see Lenny march through London?
