From Mabel Wedgwood to Horace Darwin 9 September 1876

Uppat | Golspie N.B.

Sept: 9th. 1876

Dear Horace.

Here is a delightfully idiotic letter from Leonard, which perhaps you & your people would like to see, please send it back when you have done with it. I feel very low at the idea of my jolly visit here coming so soon to an end, alas I go on Tuesday, & to make things worse, my escort South is an utter stranger to me, fancy a 24 hours journey with a stranger to look after you, how terrible, & a dull uninteresting looking man as ever lived, I should say from his looks, which is all I know of him.— I have enjoyed myself here quite immensely, we have had lots of fun, & been very foolish all the time; we have been walking & riding & & driving all day long & filled up odd moments playing Tennis, & go Bang & giggling on the slightest excuse, the Miss Locks are even better hands at that sort of thing than I am, so you can imagine, how hopelessly idiotic we have all been.

Write to me soon, it is a long time since I heard from you dear Horace, & I like your letters always.

Love to Bessy & your people generally

ever yr affecate. | Mab
