From H. E. Litchfield to Emma Darwin   [11 June 1865]

Sunday

Dearest Mamy—

Tell Papa that these are all the flowers that I don’t know in the garden & that if he larfs he’ll go to ’ell. I dare say I ought to have known ’em all—the two Boragina things he is sure to have—in fact that blue thing grows up our walk doesnt it? but I send em because he is so precious fond of that order. Now I find Eff comes on 15th I change again & think we shall be home by 22nd. The question is shall I offer our two precious selves to Aunt Susan or not. She seemed to want it before a good deal & there is no particular change between a day on my way here or my way home & I cd offer it in an entirely refusable way. I wd a little rather sleep in London, but it doesn’t signify wh. way it is. Will you tell me what to do. The day of us isn’t worth much but if you think she wd like it that is her look out. I may leave concert question open for a very few days longer & then I will leave it to you to write to Jossi because it wd be safer—pa might not want to have ’em

Another lovely day. We are very lucky

P.S. I am writing to Camilla but I suppose you will have told her about the M.S.S. [[M.J.S.]] I am glad you are not bored by the picture shew. Last night was so lovely—I went up to look at Cader in the glow of the sunset & I thought from here it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I saw him looking over the woods, wh. made such a lovely foreground & he & his brother below him (who is also very rocky & fine) were the most exquisite goldeny red & a fat red cloud sat on his highest peak & cast a violet shadow. I can hardly believe it is more beautiful from Barmouth. We shall have Eff to go up Cader with us which will be a gt improvement   She is like Champagne to an expedition. I shall have a pony as it seems a long affair & they say the road is quite good enough for riding except the last bit. Craigu y [Donin] is 20 miles off him about.
