From Horace Darwin to G. H. Darwin 6 March 1866

Mar 6th. 1866

Dear George

I think L. & I are goind to get a lathe & we dont know who to go; to would you mind asking one of the Carpmales if they know any good place for as 2nd. hand lathe. (or a first hand one) Papa think it would be the best plan if the Carpmales don't know any thing about it to ask Barrat to come to the come to the shop and see that we don’t get cheated. You can tell Carpmal that I want a very simple & good one; I think I shall go to Barrat any how he would get it better & cheaper. I think I shall get it in the Easter holidays.

Last Sunday we went exeat   Wr. let us go at 11 & stay till Monday evening there was Godfrey Sisel Mab & Amy staying there. I suppose you have herd that of Hen. is thinking of going abrord with Alace Carter & her aunt to Cannes   she sais that she feels as if she had had a proposal.

Holtszapple would be a very good shop for the lathe but very dear, one reason for going to him is that he gives lessons but I should get lessons anyhow.

It will be very jolly for Hen. but she will not be home for the Easter holidayes which is a bore.

I have got a problem for you   if you take any 4 sided figer ABCD & bisect their sides at EFGH & join them is this figer always a paralagram [DIAG HERE]

It seemes very odd but I have tried & it always comes out as near as can be [DIAGS HERE] this last one dose not seem to come true

I am your affec brother | H Darwin
