My dear Sir,
I am much obliged by your letter of the 4th, and am very glad to hear that the Foreman’s house & cottage are so satisfactorily completed. I shall enjoy coming up to see them, but am not sure at present when I can manage it, please Thank your Father for kindly offering to take me in: when I find I can manage it, I will write again.1
I hope you have arranged for a pretty good piece of garden for the cottage; I think it very important that labourers should have enough land to grow a supply of vegetables & keep a pig; and I believe they would always be willing to pay a rent sufficient to pay the tenant or Landlord; I am sorry I forgot to mention this sooner.
I am very glad you have arranged a new well for the houses.
I think the rustic fencing will look very well.
Please remember my Father & myself very kindly to Mr Higgins. I am sorry to hear of your accident, the knee is a tedious part to heal, and requires great care.
I am dear Sir | Yours faithfully | W. E Darwin
