Ap. 25

My dear Hooker

I am in trouble as on several former occasions. A new English & a German Edit. of my “Volcanic Isld” & of my “Geological observations on S. America” are wanted, & as yet copies cannot be got for love or money. Did I give you copies & if so will you give them me? Of course the New Edit shall be sent you. But I fear that as you are not a professed Geolog. I did not send them you.—2

Yours affect. | C. Darwin

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter to Smith, Elder & Co., 22 April 1876.
CD wanted copies of Volcanic islands and South America to send to Julius Victor Carus; see letter to J. V. Carus, 24 April 1876. The publisher of these works, Smith, Elder & Co., was planning to bring out second editions; see letter to Smith, Elder & Co., 22 April 1876 and n. 3.
