My dear Sir

It is a great pleasure to me to receive your work on Liebig, as it proves to me that I am not quite forgotten by you,1 I shall read your essay with much pleasure, and with very sincere thanks I remain Yours sincerely | Charles Darwin

Hofmann’s discourse on the scientific work of Justus von Liebig (Hofmann 1876) had first been delivered as the Faraday lecture for 1875 at the Chemical Society of London. In 1862, Hofmann had provided CD with specimens of pure gelatine (free from chlorine) and chemicals for his experiments with Drosera (sundew; see Correspondence vol. 10, letter from A. W. von Hofmann, 27 June 1862).
