To J. J. Weir   4 November 1876

Down

4 November 1876

[promising to propose him for the Zoological Society, sympathising with his enthusiasm about the Danais ‘… I felt much interest when I read about its spreading into Australia’ and hoping it may become naturalised ‘in this country’.]1

Weir’s letter to CD has not been found. Weir was elected a member of the Zoological Society of London in 1876 (Science Gossip n.s. 1 (1894): 49–50). On the arrival of the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) in Australia in 1870, see M’Coy 1873 and Clarke and Zalucki 2004.
The original letter is complete with cover and is described in the catalogue as being two pages long.
