July 2 1877

My dear Sir

Young Mr Appleton was in London a few weeks back (he has now retd. to New York) & he distinctly told us here to send a set of the stereotype plates of yr new work to their house, so I think we are all right.1

We are printing off 1000 Copies & keeping the type standing.

Your’s faithfully | Robt. Cooke

Chas. Darwin Esq

See letter to R. F. Cooke, 30 June [1877]. CD had questioned whether his US publisher, D. Appleton & Co., wanted stereotypes of Forms of flowers. Young Mr Appleton: William Worthen Appleton, the son of the head of the firm, William Henry Appleton.
