To H. D. Garrison   [1878]1

[While in England, Professor Garrison called to see Mr Charles Darwin, leaving for him certain of his observations on the evolution of the human ear. Mr. Darwin was not at home, but upon Dr. Garrison’s return to America he received a letter from Mr. Darwin, expressing regret at having missed meeting him, and stating that Professor Garrison’s observations were well worth consideration.]

The year is established by the fact that Garrison was in England in 1878 (Felter 1902, p. 123).
