Dear Farrer

I bring you the produce of my labours—£25. each from Mr. Charles & Mr. Alfred Morrison— £5. from Sir Julian Goldsmid & £5. from myself. £60. altogether.

I dont think more than £100. should be given to the Experimenter unless he can show good reason. It is his own time only that has to be paid for. Mess Morrison wd like to know result—& if you have anything written that I could show them on that point I should be glad. What is his name & address?

Believe me | Very truly Yours | James Caird

James Caird was collecting subscriptions to enable James Torbitt to continue his development of blight-resistant potato varieties; see enclosure and letter from T. H. Farrer, 6 March 1880.
CD was thinking about writing a letter to The Times to invite subscriptions to Torbitt’s fund and wanted to use Caird’s name; see letter to T. H. Farrer, 7 [March 1880].
