Will you be so kind as to inform me whether you are a member of the Ray Society: if you are not, I am anxious to be allowed to send you a copy of my volume on Cirripedia,1 for I hope & flatter myself some small portion would somewhat interest you. Not knowing your address I have directed this to the care of Mr. Taylor.2

Living Cirripedia (1851), which was not available for distribution until late January 1852. Members of the Ray Society automatically received the publications of the society. Huxley was not a member at this time (L. Huxley ed. 1900, 1: 89). According to CD’s list of presentation copies of Living Cirripedia (1851), the volume was sent to Huxley (MS attached to CD’s copy of Living Cirripedia (1854) in the Cambridge University Library).
